What is a Ratio?

A ratio is a comparison of two or more numbers that indicates their sizes in relation to each other. For example, a ratio of 12:18 means for every 12 of the first quantity, there are 18 of the second quantity.

Simplifying Ratios

To simplify a ratio, divide both numbers by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For 12:18, GCD is 6, so simplified ratio is 2:3.

Finding Missing Values

In a proportion a:b = c:d, cross-multiply: a × d = b × c. Enter any three values to find the missing one.

Real-Life Applications
